Mom, what date is today?”
“June 8th, 2025.”
“No, I am asking you ‘What date is today’, it should be in numbers!”
“Yes, I told you, it is June 8th, 2025!”
“Mom, I am asking you the numbers!”
……
One typical afternoon, I was washing dishes when my son asked me this question. He had just finished his artwork and wanted to write his name and date on it, just like all the other greatest artists. After a few more back-and-forths, I finally understood he was asking about the date —the date! Zero six, zero eight, two thousand twenty-five!
During this time, I’ve realized that it might be a good time to teach my children the dates of the year. We have begun our homeschooling trial during his summer break to establish some routine, and learning this will be an excellent addition to our Homeschool Morning Time.
Meanwhile, I have some students in speech therapy that need to work on their basic calendar skills, especially my AAC users (Augmentative and Alternative Communication). Wouldn’t it be nice to have something handy to pull out for daily practice?
So I made this:
Bilingual Monthly Tracing Calendar|中英双语学写日期

I created this bilingual monthly calendar in both Chinese and English, so my children can practice and become familiar with Chinese characters as we use this calendar every day. This homeschooling calendar spans from July 2025 to June 2026.

How To Use It|如何使用
Just print them and use them!
If you want to save time and ink, I would suggest you to get some dry erase pockets and dry erase markers. I found mine at the dollar store, but you could find them on Amazon as well:
- Dry Erase Pockets (These look just like the ones I have)
- Dry Erase Markers (I have these and they are great!)
- Optional: Restaurant menus (Some people use this so the pages can stay together like a book)

My son has just completed first grade, so he is familiar with the days of the week and the months of the year. Before we start our regular school day, we use a calendar to help him review the months. He can either tell me or read the month printed on the calendar. Then, I give him hints such as, “Today is the first day of the week,” or “Today is Tuesday” to find the date.
By using this calendar, we not only practice the months of the year and the days of the week, but we also work on understanding dates and calendars, as well as enhance his reading and handwriting skills.
Additionly, we have two classroom wall calendars that I bought from Target’s dollar section, which we use for some hands-on fun.

What Else Do We Do During Our Morning Time?|晨间时光还做什么?
Setting aside a little time for learning is really helpful for maintaining routines during the summer while school is out. Our morning time usually includes: Bible & Virtues, Calendar, Weather & Seasons, and practicing writing our names.
Weather & Seasons|天气和季节

My first-grader and preschooler do the morning time activities together. It is helpful for me to ask my first-grader about the calendar, then ask my preschooler about the weather and seasons so everyone gets to answer questions “first”.

On my printable, I intentionally put the months underneath each season as a hint for my children. As you can see in the picture, summer months are June, July and August.

I definitely think this worksheet is great for speech therapy as well! I have a fun play idea: pull play-doh into small pieces and cover the name of each season for the child to guess!
I Can Write My Name!|练习写名字

I created this worksheet to incorporate handwriting practice alongside calendar skills. For my school-age child, I asked him to write his name, age, and the date. I placed the calendar worksheet next to him as a reference for his copywork.

For my preschooler, I made a traceable worksheet with her name already printed on it, and then manually added dots for her to trace the date.
